The Division of Government and Political Theory in Haifa university is one of the leading centers in Israel in the study and research of comparative politics, Israeli politics and political theory. Researchers and teachers in the Division focus on subjects that are in the center of the academic and political agenda in Israel and worldwide: political behavior and voting patterns, ethnical relations and national identity, terrorism and political violence, privatization and globalization, political psychology, federalism and governance, civil society, morality and ethics during conflict, gender and family structure. Experts in regional fields of study are part of the Division, focusing on the Middle East, America, Europe, and East Asia.
The Division offers a number of central courses in the general curriculum of the School including introductory courses in government and politics, introduction to political thought and the Israeli political system. The staff of the Division fulfills central positions in teaching research methods in the School. In the last few years the Division places more emphasis on the importance of advanced degrees (M.A. and PhD) and provides tools for research, writing and critical thought to B.A. students. Special attention is given to training and promoting students to advanced degrees and students that show promise in the advancement of teaching and research in the Division, the School and the University.
