Accelerated M.A. Track

About the track
This track is intended for students who completed their second B.A. year successfully and wish to continue to their M.A. studies while completing their B.A. studies. This is an opportunity to complete M.A. studies quickly in a supporting and engaging academic atmosphere. The track will include academic challenges, enjoyment and satisfaction.

Entitlement for admission
Political science students who completed their second year of B.A. studies in an average of 86 and above will be entitled to enroll to the fast research track. Students may enroll to M.A. studies until October 2010.

Academic program
The track includes completion of B.A. studies, seven M.A. courses (three mandatory and four electives) and writing a thesis.

First year:

In the first year of the fast track three M.A. course are required: "Theories and Schools of Thought" Research Workshop A" and "Research Workshop B." Each mandatory course comprises 4 weekly hours. Concurrently, the remaining B.A. courses and seminars should be completed during the first year of the fast track. Some of the courses that are studied in the third year in the first degree can be completed in the summer semester after completion of the first year of the academic track can be completed, if studied. Upon completion of all the B.A. duties, students will be entitled to receive a B.A. irrespective to the continuation of their studies.

Second year:

In the second year to the fast track students are required to complete the remaining four electives. At least one elective can be taken in other Divisions and faculties. In the event you wish to take more than one elective outside the Division, this can be done following the approval of your supervisor and obtaining approval from other Divisions. It is preferable that other courses relate to the subject matter of the thesis even if other faculties and Divisions are involved, in or out of the University.

Thesis - General

  1. After finding a suitable advisor, the stage of writing the thesis gains momentum. This process can already start during the first year of the fast track, yet it is reasonable to begin the thesis in the second year, and focus on the writing itself in the third year - after completion of the seven courses. A research proposal for thesis should be submitted and approval of the thesis should be obtained at the end of the second year of studies in the fast track at the latest. Writing and submission of the thesis will be done until the end of the third year.
  2. Choosing a subject: the proposed subject of research should be related to political science. From the general subject the student presents a research question which he intends to answer in his work. The answer to the research question is the conclusion of the work. The way in which the student intends to answer the question is the method of research.
  3. Guidance: guidance is performed by a staff member in the School who is in a lecturer status at least. The student ought to initiate contact with a staff member concerning the proposed research subject and see whether the staff member is willing to serve as an advisor. If a staff member who is willing to serve as an advisor was not found, the student will contact the School M.A. Advisor. Staff members outside the School may also be consulted, and the student may, in coordination with the advisor from the School of Political Sciences, join the guidance process. It is recommended to make a thorough search and find a number of relevant academic staff members. Afterwards, it is recommended to contact potential guides through email and schedule a meeting. After you have all the information about the guides, you should make a decision already during the first semester of the third year.
  4. Course of action: after reaching an agreement with the guide as to the subject matter of the research, the research question and method, the student will write a research proposal, outlining the subject and the method, and presenting the possible contribution of the proposal to the field of study in light of the existing literature.
  5. Research proposal: during the second year of the fast track studies the student ought to submit his research proposal in two copies. The School secretariat will send the research proposal to readers in or outside the University. According to recommendations of the readers the student will correct the proposal and send it for another reading. When the proposal is approved the student may continue his research in his M.A. studies.

Structure of thesis proposal:

A title page including the name of the work, name of supervisor and date of submission
